Limited Edition Fabulously Fresh Purex Crystals Review

Limited Edition Fabulously Fresh Purex Crystals Review

As a member of the Purex Insiders I get the opportunity to try out their latest products and share my opinions with you.  My most recent review includes the Limited Edition Fabulously Fresh Purex Crystals.  I was sent a kit with a full sized bottle to review and coupons that I can share with my family, friends and readers.  I love using Purex Crystals when doing my laundry.  It really does help your laundry smell much better.

I’ve really enjoyed using this product it worked just like the other crystals I had tried in the past.  You simply pour in your laundry detergent, put in the clothes and then pour the crystals on top before closing the washer.  It lasts for weeks.  This limited edition scent smelled so good.  It reminded me of spring flowers.  The small crystals fall into the right places in the laundry and get them smelling great.  They easily dissolve in the laundry so you don’t have to worry about them getting stuck in parts or anything like that.

About Purex Crystals:

Purex Crystals are 87% natural crystals that go in at the start of the wash, so they spend more time infusing laundry with long-lasting freshness.  It’s available in the fabric softener aisle.

Disneynature Bears – Free Activity & Oliva Holt Screening Photos

Disneynature Bears – Free Activity & Oliva Holt Screening Photos

bears52fbc9f14f63fOn Friday, April 18th Disneynature Bears is set to open in theaters nationwide.  That’s during spring break week for us so it’s a great time to take the kids to learn about the life of Bears.  In this epic story done on a breathtaking scale, this new True Life Adventures showcases a year in the life of a bear family as two impressionable young cubs are taught life’s most important lessons.  The majestic Alaskan backdrop their journey begins as winter comes to an end and the bears emerge from hibernation to face the bitter cold.  While the world outside is exciting it’s still risky and as the cubs’ playfully descent down the mountain there’s a looming threat of avalanches.  With each season change the brown bears must work hard to find food, while trying to stay safe from rival male bears and predators, including a persistent wolf.  Bears captures the fast-moving action and suspense of life in one of the planet’s last great wildernesses—Alaska!

The film is directed by Alastair Fothergill (“Earth,” “African Cats” and “Chimpanzee”) and Keith Scholey (“African Cats”), and narrated by John C. Reilly, “Bears” arrives in theaters in time to celebrate Earth Day.

  • “Bears” is the fifth theatrical release for Disneynature, the first new Disney-branded film label from The Walt Disney Studios in more than 60 years.  The label was launched in April 2008 to bring the world’s top nature filmmakers together to capture a variety of wildlife subjects and stories.
  • The first four releases under the Disneynature label—“Earth,” “Oceans,” “African Cats” and “Chimpanzee”—are among the top five highest grossing feature-length nature films of all time.
  • Walt Disney was a pioneer in wildlife documentary filmmaking, producing 13 True Life Adventure motion pictures between 1948 and 1960, including “Seal Island” (1948), “Beaver Valley” (1950), “The Living Desert” (1953) and “Jungle Cat” (1958).  The films earned eight Academy Awards®.

To celebrate the upcoming release I wanted to share some free activity sheets and some photos from the special screening held by Olivia Holt on the Disney Studio Lot (which I visited by the way).

Heather, The Scared Tooth Fairy Book Review

Heather, The Scared Tooth Fairy Book Review

Disclosure: I was provided a copy of this book for review purposes.  Any and all opinions are my own.

My daughter recently lost another tooth and since I didn’t have change the tooth fairy dropped off ten bucks.  She was so excited.  I didn’t know if or how I would do the whole tooth fairy thing with my kids since we don’t do Santa.  Thank goodness for Tinkerbell and those fairies for great ideas that I could use to tell my kids about the Tooth Fairy.  I’ve had to come up with some creative letters for teeth that fell out.  I recently had the opportunity to review a book by a mother and daughter called Heather, The Scared Tooth Fairy.

I really liked this book.  It was so cute because of the drawings that they used for the books.  The drawings are Jasmin’s and they make the book much more special and personal to kids in my opinion.  The story is about Heather and her first day of fairy flight school.  She’s nervous about the new teacher and is down about going to school.  Her mom held her and talked to her about calming down and giving the new teacher a try.  Once she got to school she found that other fairies were also scared about flight school and she found a way to cheer them all up.  They were having so much fun with Heather when their new teacher arrived they were ready to learn and had lots of fun with her.  The story helps kids with nerves and learning about giving something new a try.  The book is short and perfect for young readers who are in the phase of loosing teeth.  My daughter loved the book.  She has read it a few times and she even drew some of her own fairies based on the ones in the book.  The author’s also has some activity and coloring sheets on their sites for readers.

You can purchase the book on Amazon.  Also you can visit them on Facebook.

Gluten Free Grocery Guide

The Essential Gluten-Free Grocery Guide Review

The Essential Gluten-Free Grocery Guide
Author: Triumph Dining
Publisher: New Year Publishing
Pages : 472
Genre: Reference/Guide
Published Date: 5th Edition (2012)
Price: $24.95
About The Essential Gluten-Free Grocery Guide & Triumph Dining
The guide covers over 44,000 products from hundreds of different brands.  The products listed are likely to be found in typical American grocery stores like Walmart, Meijer, Safeway and others.  They include brand names, as well as private labels brands from many of the larger grocery chains.  The color coded system makes planning and finding your favorite foods a snap.
In 2004, the original founders were living in a new city — Philadelphia — and found that avoiding social opportunities with food was not an effective way to make friends.  And he was overwhelmed by how challenging it was to find restaurants to take his fiancée (now wife) where he could actually order something gluten-free.Then his wife had a brilliant idea: “Let’s make dining cards to teach restaurants how to prepare gluten free foods!”Together, the couple visited kitchen restaurants, interviewed chefs, read product labels, and studied dozens of cookbooks. They built lists of foods they could both eat, foods to avoid, and the likely pitfalls they might encounter at restaurants. Eventually, they turned these lists into thorough and foolproof instructions, and enlisted translators – three translators per card, actually – to ready them for ethnic restaurants.
The first time they used the dining cards, they were really just guinea pigs, so you can imagine how glad he was when they actually worked.
He used them in dozens of restaurants across Philadelphia, enjoying corn tortillas at a Mexican greasy spoon — where nobody spoke English — and even eating Indian food — now one of his favorite cuisines — for the very first time.
Triumph’s first customers found success with the cards, too. In fact, most of the sales came from word-of-mouth referrals. The response was incredible!

My Thoughts on the book:

This book takes all the guess work out of gluten free shopping. Whether you are making the change due to healthy reasons or an allergen problem, or simply choosing to use certain products for a healthier lifestyle this is the guide for you. Looking through this guide I don’t think they have missed anything and the best part is the book is constantly updated so they are always improving and adding more products and brands to help making grocery shopping a breeze. The book is broken up into categories including dairy & eggs, beverages, baking aisle, canned & prepackaged foods, bread, cereal, pasta, condiments, snacks, baby formula & food, meat, and frozen foods. The symbols summary makes is a breeze to determine what products are from GF lines or facilities where there is no chance of cross-contamination, if gluten testing is performed or if a product is made with gluten free products but there is a possibility for cross-contamination. It even has photos of gluten free products and brands for even better shopping. If you or someone you know is living or planning on living a gluten-free lifestyle then this is a must have. You can order the book directly from Triumph Dining. While on their site check out some of their other products; The Gluten Free Restaurant Guide, Gluten Free Baking Guide and their dining cards.

Aroma Housewares Review

A few weeks back I got a chance to review a product from Aroma Housewares it was a rice cooker from their site that is also on sale at Walmart.  I needed to get a rice cooker for when we have big family functions or when I wanted to make sushi at home.  I found that a rice cooker just worked much better.  When it arrived in the mail however I was ever more surprised that it was much more that just a rice cooker.  It was also a slow cooker and it also has the ability to steam cook as well.  It has a delayed timer so you can put your recipe items in and delay the start of the machine so it would be ready when you get home from work.  There were so many great features on this thing I couldn’t wait to give it a spin.  With the holidays and then our very mild winter so far there just hasn’t been a time I thought of pulling it out but soon I discovered I was wrong I could be using this much more often that I thought.

Aroma Rice Cooker and Food Steamer Review

Let me share some of the features that I found and used with this machine and I am sure there are more.  First I think because it’s a rice cooker the inner pot is not heavy like my slow cooker’s.  Its a very light weight metal and it also appears to be non stick.  It also has measurements inside the pot so its super easy to see how much you’re putting in if you’re just cooking rice.  Another thing I noticed is that were I was cooking in this is wasn’t hot on the outside.  My slow cooker would be super hot on the outside that I burnt my fingers once.  This one was cook to the touch.  Of course like I mentioned before you can steam cook in this beauty.  There was a small basket that you can use to steam cook by itself or when cooking another item in the cooker as well.  The directions were super easy and the book had lots of recipes.

My favorite feature on this machine I think was the water catcher on the side of the unit.  I first noticed the little plastic cup on the side when I was checking out the cooker.  I didn’t know what it was for so I just put it back on the cooker and started cooking.  About three hours into cooking I opened up the cooker to check on my food and to make sure it didn’t need any extra fluids.  That’s when I realized its use.  When you open the lid the water that’s on the top of the lid slides into a crease and falls into the water catcher so that water doesn’t fall back into your food or all over the machine and counter.  I thought that was pretty neat.

BBQ pulled pork

I ended up making a BBQ pork shoulder in my machine.  I just used a base recipe online and cooked it for eight hours.  I ended up stopping it an hour early because the pork was already falling off the bone.  I pulled it out the cooker and pulled off all the pork and shredded it into smaller bits.  I added some extra BBQ sauce and then served it for dinner.  It was super tasty and clean up was such a breeze.  I just took out the pot and emptied the fluids in the sink and washed it out with soap and water.  It was clean and spotless in less than a minute.  No greasy residue or stuck on foods.  I absolutely loved it.  My new project is trying to make Jambalaya that I found on the Aroma website. I also want to try this Paella recipe as well and if you’re looking for ideas they have an entire recipe section on their website.  I highly recommend that you pick up one of these if you’re in the market simply because of all the features and the multiple uses of the one cooker.

Catfish: The TV Show

List of freshwater aquarium fish species
List of freshwater aquarium fish species (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

So I am browsing channels and I saw a show Catfish.  I guess I think its about food and I tune it, only to find it’s not about food in any way at all.  If you haven’t seen the show let me give some brief insight into this show.  Its on the MTV Network.  It’s like a documentary series about people who are in online relationships.  This is my second time seeing the show actually the first time I didn’t even realize what I was watching.  The episode I saw today was about a guy who was dating a former Miss Teen USA.  There had been chatting on Facebook for a few months and he wanted to find out if she was real or fake.  Crazy right!  Well their is a two man team who makes calls and interview people to see just how real or fake the person in question is.  They were so convinced that the girl was real they even called her and set up a meeting for the pair.  When the girl’s car arrives at the boy’s house he is expecting to find his online friend the model but instead its one of his friends.

She was so good she even fooled the people making the show.  She had people to verify they knew her and even had an agent state that he worked with her in the past.  Later she reviled that she was addicted to creating fake Facebook profiles.  She said she liked the feeling she got from chatting with people through the fake profile.  It seems like it makes her feel better and helps her self esteem.  Still she didn’t care how it affected the people she was lying to.  The other episode I saw was very similar to this one.  A girl was online dating a guy for two years and wanted the team to help them finally meet face to face.  Long story short, there was no man just a jealous girl that was dating her ex-boyfriend.  She was using the fake profile to keep the girl away from the ex.  How in the world you date someone for two years online is beyond me but it seems she did and she was so hurt in the end.

Have you seen Catfish?  What are your thoughts?

It some on MTV tonight (Monday) at 11PM.  Check it out if you get a chance.

Read some more buzz about the show.

Little Pim Review

I’ve blogged before about wanting to introduce my children to foreign languages because I feel its very valuable and important for their development. We got a chance to review a Little Pim digital download.  We got Little Pim Chinese on my iPad so the kids could watch it when we are in the car or when they are home and just relaxing.  My first piece of advice is to get something that works well with your children.  I think my kids would watch a DVD longer but my toddler prefers spending time on the electronics.  That’s the good thing about Little Pim they offer their products on DVD or digital download.

The concept of the program is so simple and easy.  They break down each segment into five minute episodes to keep the kids attention span. All their language products aim to introduce 360 words to your child.  The program is designed to help your kids commit them to memory and use them in their every day life.  I watched the episodes first and picked the ones I wanted to start working on with my kids.  Right now we are working on the bedtime routine.  To help your child learn the language they show children speaking in the language you choose for your dvd/digital download.  In our case Chinese.  The kids are speaking in Chinese about the things they are doing.  They ask their parents questions and have conversations in Chinese.  When they introduce the name of an item they highlight that item and say the word so your child knows what the word means.

My children have loved learning the chinese words for some of the things during their night time routine and words for getting dressed.  I try to replay the episodes so they get repetition of the same words and phrases.  Soon they will start remember them and hopefully start using them.  Since I am watching and learning as well it helps them with conversation.  If you’re interested in learning more about this program find out how below.

Top Mom Blogger
When I started blogging more seriously in September of 2012 I had lots of questions.  Should I keep using my blog?  Should I get my own domain name?  What about hosting?  Social media sites?  There were so many questions and not a lot of places to get answers.  Well at least I had my blogging buddy to help me with the basics and get started.  I wish I had done more research because I would have done so many things differently had I though about it or had some blogging assistance.  Don’t get me wrong, if it wasn’t for my blogging buddy I wouldn’t have gotten the start I did.  I was so excited about getting a free trial to browse around the Top Mom Blogger site.  I was offered a 30-day trial membership to get a peek into the site and see what they had to offer.  Boy did I learn a lot.  Within my first 24 hrs of logging into the site I was finding so much useful information that I just never had access to before.

I really liked the section for blog challenges however the challenge is not all the way complete, I would like to see what else they would add to help you in 30 days of challenges.  If you’re looking to monetize they have some suggestions to get your started in that area as well. I completely changed how I approached comments after reading the article on the site.  The site if growing constantly and new content is being added all the time.  There are also training session conference calls coming to the site soon.  There’s so much to learn on the site and one lucky blogger can win a six month membership to the site.  Weather you are a newbie, intermediate or expert blogger there is something for you on the site.  If you are even thinking about starting a blog you too can enter to learn more about blogging. Winter Wardrobe Shopping with Cookie’s Kids

I have been saying that I need to get a new jacket for our toddler for over a month but I just haven’t gotten around to it.  As the holidays approached I figured it would just get done in the Christmas shopping especially since more stores put them on clearance around this time.  The weather hasn’t been really cold so I have been using his ski vest and a light jacket and he’s been fine.  However some how his ski vest vanished and the search for a jacket got much more urgent.  I logged on to the Cookie’s Kids website.  I was immediately surprised about the prices. They had great prices and so many different options for parents to choose buy for their children.  I immediately clicked in the winter section and found my toddler’s size and started looking for jackets.  Here’s the two I settle on.

Cookies Kids Jackets

I couldn’t believe the great price on them.  The blue one that has a grey hoodie and sleeves I really liked because it looked like a sweatshirt and a ski vest in one.  It was only $9.99, and it’s a great value.  It not too heavy so he can wear it on the days when its not super cold and windy and its fits him perfectly.  The grey jacket with the red stripes is a much thicker jacket and it has a great fleece lining.  I got it a size bigger so we can really bundle him up in it and it has the velcro on the arms so you can adjust it to fit his wrist better.  This one was only $12.99, a great value.  I have seen similar jackets at kids clothing stores for double that amount.  I’ve been very impressed with my Cookie’s Kids winter clothes order.  J.B looks great in his new winter jackets.  Check him out.

JB Jacket

I love this one on him so much.  The color looks really good on him and he is so comfy and warm in it.  He likes this one a lot.

Cookies Kids Grey Jacket

As you can see they both fit him great and he is always ready to go once he has his jacket on.  He’s trying to pull up the zipper himself.  This one was perfect for the windy day we had yesterday and his hood helps keep his hat in place so he doesn’t keep taking it off.  Speaking of hats, I also picked up a hat and gloves set for my oldest son as well.  It has his favorite character on it Buzz Lightyear.

trey hat

Yes he did forget about the gloves on the hat, he was just too excited about it having Buzz on it.  Another think I loved about shopping on the Cookie’s Kids website was the Alva Kids sizing tool.  If you are worried about shopping online because you can’t see the sizes of the clothes and you don’t want to get the wrong sizes, with this tool you don’t ever have to worry about that at all.  When shopping on the site and you click on an article of clothing, look for the Alva Kids icon.  It looks like this.

easy tool

When you click on the tool a pop up appears for you to either register so anytime you are on the site all your child’s sizing information it at your finger tips.

Sizing tool

You share information about your child and they tell you what size to choose in that item.  It refreshes and saves so the entire time you are shopping you have the correct size suggestions based on your input.  Now you don’t have to worry about buying the wrong sizes any more.

The History and Growth of Cookies Kids.

In 1972, a young man named Cookie and his brother Marvin went into business together. They rented a 1600 square foot store in Jamaica, Queens, fixed it up, bought inventory in Summer and Fall, and opened a day after Thanksgiving with a full stock of holiday toys. The toys were a success and they put the extra money toward buying children’s clothing for the next season. When that did well, they bought more clothing. The business was on it’s way.  As the brothers Cookie, Marvin and Sonny, who had come in as a third partner in the business, began to open new stores in new locations, inventory expanded. Besides the latest fashions, our customers wanted shoes, toys, backpacks and accessories and we were prepared to deliver.  By the late 1990’s there were six superstores throughout the NYC area, and though they previously had different names, by that time they were all named Cookie’s Kids. Also in the late ’90s came an important addition to Cookie’s Kids’ inventory: school uniforms. It was the steady success in uniform sales that paved the way for founding in 2007, which originally sold uniforms and soon after the entire Cookie’s Kids Inventory.
